Teacher and Husband Arrested after Pot Pipe Found in Child’s Diaper

Could face life in prison on 2 child neglect charges

GUTHRIE, OK – A pipe found in a child’s diaper resulted in a Head Start teacher and her husband being charged last week with child neglect and drug possession. But the story doesn’t end there.

Prosecutors in Logan County charged Jessica Renaker,28, and her husband, Jesse Renaker,32,  Friday with child neglect, drug possession and several other offenses after  a small pipe was found by a day care worker changing one of their two children. Workers notified the state Department of Human Services, who notified police.

When Logan County sheriff deputies searched the family home to follow up on the complaint and check on the child’s welfare, they found more than an ounce of marijuana, a loaded .380-caliber handgun and four pipes within the reach of children, according to court records.

The couple is charged with felony child neglect for allegedly keeping marijuana, a loaded .380-caliber handgun and four drug pipes within reach of their older child; they face a duplicate charge for their younger child.

If they are convicted each child neglect charge could bring up to life in prison or a fine of $500-$5,000.

Jessica and Jesse Renaker were released from the Logan County jail Friday on $52,000 bail each. DHS took both children in the home into custody.

Although Jessica Renaker told police she was a “Coyle school teacher,” the superintendent of Coyle Public Schools said she does not work for the district, but is an employee of Coyle Head Start.

    The loaded gun is certainly a bad idea, if it was in fact within reach of a small child.  The pipe and the marijuana are not harmful to anyone.  Just think of the parents that smoke cigarettes in the same room or vehicle with their child…that’s the real crime!

    So if they’d had a gun and cigarettes and alcohol within the children’s reach, that would’ve been OK, but possessing cannibis is child neglect??? WTH is wrong with the world??

    I don’t think the pot smoking is so bad but hiding a pipe in a child’s diaper is just ludacris! and having a loaded hand gun within reach of children is just awful, i myself don’t believe in weapons of any kind especially to have them within reach of ur precious children but it doesn’t seem like they even care about that fact.
